What good is sitting alone in your room? Come hear the music play...
At the Dynamic Outdoors Ski trip in St. Anton, Austria in early February there were 40 of us accomplished, single, mostly 30-something New Yorkers looking to ski down the Austrian mountain trails and find other excitement. We had about 60% women in our group but when we arrived at Piccadilly Dance Club on Saturday night it was packed with about 85% Euro guys looking to dance with anyone moving to music that was hot 5 years ago.
My friend asked a bouncer if it was a "gay club" and the hefty Slavic guy said "if you want gay you'll have to go somewhere else." The women in our group loved the place. One even told me that Euro guys (think good looking but dentally challenged bad guys from "Die Hard") are not "hung up" about their sexuality like the American guys (think grown up version of "American Pie" characters). I found that ironic coming from a single 33 year old expert on "The Rules" who's seriously hunting for good husband material. Proving her point - the Euro guys had no fear of dancing with their arms consistently twirling over their heads.
The skiing was on marathon long trails which connected several beautiful historic towns. The powder was extremely pleasurable to ski but the unmarked areas off-trail could easily lead to dangerous cliffs. Their attitude is: "Ski at your own risk - So don't cry like a school girl who skinned her knee if you fall off a cliff."
My question is: Would you interpret this vacation as fun/exciting or stressful/annoying?

Euro guys/Euro gals... this is why all the expat parties here in NYC are so popular! MadeInItaly, InternationalSwede.com, FrenchTuesdays etc.
most Euro peeps are not full of complexes of hollywoodesque perception in persona,
but many American women are also, proving mostly an unsurmountable challenge
to US guys.........
Skiing in Austria and Switzerland is the best....def. an A+ for excitement.....
and w/ you Cass and your crowd in Europe..............would be a laugh all the way.......
Euros have just as much attitude as Americans, if not more. They hang out in cliques and think the US is an arrogant, stupid country. My question to them always is - why are you here?
As for tne trip, sounds like a pain in the ass for the guys.
Fun -vs- Stressful OR Exciting -vs-Annoying? I guess it depends on ow much money you spent and if you came back alive, which if seems you did...
sounds like a great trip to me, but i would not want to go there with 40 nyc'ers. you miss out on what a european board trip is all about - experiencing tremendous mtns and terrain, meeting people from all over the world, and getting away from ny'ers like yourselves. sounds like you would be better off in vail. i bet you didn't even make it across the street o rendl or in the backcountry or over to lech/zurs or stuben? stay in north america. keep the arlberg real...
Was there last year. Great skiing but they don't call it "St. Manton" for nothin'!
